KAVA CITY

"Kava City" draws its name from the iconic nickname of San Francisco, The City by the Bay. Just as San Francisco is famously linked to its surrounding bay, "Kava City" pays homage to this heritage while highlighting a unique cultural connection to the people and those of Tongan decent.

In the late 1980s into the 1990s, a significant number of Tongans and Polynesians from the South Pacific migrated to San Francisco. They brought with them the tradition of drinking kava, a beverage made from the root of the kava plant. For Tongans, kava is much more than a drinkโ€”it is a powerful symbol that connects them to their ancestors and cultural roots.

The name "Kava City" thus reflects both the geographical inspiration of San Francisco's well-known nickname and the cultural significance of kava within the Tongan community. It honors the deep-rooted traditions brought by Tongans, blending heritage with place in a way that resonates with both history and identity.

The colors Kava Brown and Earth Tan reflect the warmth of Tongan roots and the welcoming feel of the Bay Area. Kava City honors heritage, community, and the ties between past and present. Kava City offers you kava, a beverage to connection.

About our company

Kava City was created from heritage, sacrifice, and the desire to keep our culture alive in a new generation.

When Polynesians in the South Pacific migrated to America, they brought more than just belongings โ€” they brought traditions, values, and kava. In many ways, kava became โ€œhome away from home,โ€ a way for our people to gather, speak our language, share stories, and stay connected to the islands while building a new life in America.

This is the foundation Kava City is built on.

Our mission is to honor that legacy while sharing it with the next generation โ€” especially Polynesian youth โ€” so they understand where we come from, what was sacrificed, and why culture matters. Kava is more than a drink; it represents connection, respect, and community.

At the same time, we welcome everyone to experience a space built on calm energy, meaningful conversation, and genuine connection โ€” without the pressure of alcohol-centered nightlife.

Kava City is where tradition meets today โ€” keeping our culture alive, one city at a time.

โ€œIn the Isles of the sea it takes a village to raise one, but in America it takes a City to raise the new Generations.โ€
